When Agilent
Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that the Agilent Technologies Foundation
was donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross to support fire-relief efforts
in Colorado, the company underscored a long-time, ongoing commitment to
Colorado, dating back to1959. That's when Hewlett-Packard, the company that
would later spawn Agilent, selected Loveland, Colo., as its first U.S. location
outside of the San Francisco Bay Area.
By 1962, HP had expanded
into Colorado Springs, and the campus there is now home to Agilent's
Oscilloscope Products Division as well as the company's Colorado Springs
Technology Center. Nearly 500 employees and contractors work on site.
In addition to a variety
of disaster-relief services and resources the company is offering to its
employees in Colorado Springs, the Agilent community throughout the U.S. has
rallied to the cause, with charity drives and collections of donated items
useful to Colorado Springs employees affected by the fire.
"As we manage our
way through this crisis, I am humbled by the strength and greatness of our
communities within Agilent and Colorado Springs," said Jay Alexander,
general manager of Agilent's Colorado Springs site. "We will get through
this together and emerge stronger from it."
Adding to its donation,
the Agilent Technologies Foundation will match employees' gifts up to $50,000.
Donations can be made at www.redcross.org.
